a color combination: one

palette created by me || my polyvore set || image

I came across the above right picture back in December and it immediately caught my attention. I love the combination of colors of this woman's outfit. As much as I love to wear black black black; over the past year and a half I've dabbled more into changing the palette up a bit while playing with new color combinations. I think this is a great example of a combination that adds color while still leaning towards a muted neutral ground. It gives me that dreary and cool winter day vibe, one of those where you'd rather not brave the streets and get things done, but would rather stay inside curled up with a blanket.

While the actual outfit in the picture is not something I'd personally wear, I do still love how it looks. It plays into the masculine and feminine combination in looks that I am drawn towards; the dress paired with an army green parka worn with heels. The Polyvore set is far more my style, an example how I'd likely wear an outfit with the color combination. I own an army green field coat from J.Crew that I live in during transition months, which I have been missing during the colder winter.

So, do you have any favorite color combinations?

I'll admit, while I don't wear much color, I am very intrigued with creating color palettes and playing with combinations of different colors together. It is always one of my favorite parts to designing a new collection.

I have a few other favorite color combination pictures saved so I'll do this again! xx.

  1. I like that shade of olive green and how it works with the darker tones. Also in GD picture, that is an interesting way she wears her scarf.

Personally, I wear a lot of black and blue.

    1. I agree, it works nicely with darker tones! Isn't it? I love her 'hat' too. The whole outfit gives me a modern Amelia Earhart vibe [which is something I really love!]

I wear a lot of black and blue also. Thanks so much for your comment.
      xx.

  2. That Sartorialist picture has been a fave of mine for a couple of years now. Its an images thats imprinted on my brain & every fall/winter I work towards achieving this look... its funny because the parka (Balenciaga) popped up randomly on ebay last year, sucks that it wasn't my size.

    1. I figured it was Scott's, I need to find it on his site so I can properly credit, I hate not being able to link directly to the site of the picture! Anyhow... it's lovely, is it not? The colors are fabulous. It's one of those pictures that makes me wish I liked wearing dresses more than I actually do. Good choice to work to achieve-- I hope you succeed! Her Balenciaga [I should have known, I love Balenciaga] parka is to die for, so sad it wasn't your size!

Thanks for your thoughts, love! xx.
