a film: Beginners [2010]

I was a bit late to the party with seeing this film; which is odd, as I love the three main cast members and it is the kind of film I love the most. Regardless, a matter of months ago I finally watched Beginners and simply loved it. How you could not is beyond me. Christopher Plummer, Ewan McGregor and Mélanie Laurent are some of my favorites and all simply lovely; the story line is original; the shots are beautiful; the sets are calming; the costumes are realistic and relatable. Plus Oliver's dog, Arthur, is simply adorable! Its one of those endearing film that you can't help fall in love with every character in it. It's one of those films, that even in the form of screenshots make such a pretty picture, frame after frame. No matter if a character is in the frame or not. I think it says something to have a film that can look pleasing both in motion and in still frames.

Not only did I love Anna's [Mélanie Laurent] wardrobe and apartment, she had the best hair styles the entire film. I'm not one to fixate on hairstyles, ever, but that was one of the biggest things that caught my eye in this film. There an easy nonchalance to her various hairstyles, which is something I am all for. Never have I been a fan of fussy hair, possibly partially due to the fact that my thick hair has all the properties of thin hair... thus doing nothing. Ever! I'm a fan of the au natural, both for color and style, the wash-and-air dry. My hair style is what ever my hair chooses to do, sometimes that means it has some wave or soft random curls... other time it's fairly straight. It's only ever pulled back, braided or in a messy bun. I'm a big fan of the messy bun. Regardless, I love how easy and natural her hair looks through the entire film. I love the pulled back, off centered, partial braid bellow. Something I may consider replicating one day.

I tucked a few more of my favorite pictures bellow the cut. So enjoy!
Have you seen the film? Did you enjoy it?
xx.
